Alakananda – Kathak Dancer and Choreographer, Director of AIPA
Alaknanda, born in a family where education is blended with music, has the inborn talent of music and rhythm. Her advance training is imparted by Guru Munna Lal Shukla who has infused in her the poetic essence of the dance form. She has also been awarded the National Scholarship by the MINISTRY OF CULTURE. She is an empanelled artist of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (lCCR). She is the Founder, Director and Guru of Kathak at Alaknanda Institute of Performing Arts (AIPA). Founded in 1990.
AIPA has been successfully established in Noida and Greater Noida. Aipa is affiliated to A.B.Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai . Its also the examination centre for NOIDA and NCR. Alaknanda is an alumini of Kathak Kendra, National School of Kathak dance having completed POST DIPLOMA at 1992. She has completed Graduation (Visharad) with First Divison from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai.Awarded NRITYA VAIBHAV by Akhil Bharatiya Sanskutik Sangh, Pune on 21st May, 2006.She has successfully completed her Diploma in Kathak with Gold Medal from Bangiya Sangeet Kalakendra, Kolkata and awarded the Title “NRITYA SHREE” in 2010.

Sur Singar Samsad (Mumbai) has honored her with the title “SINGARMANI” for her excellence in her art. Awarded as the best dancer title by SAHITYAKALA PARISHAD. ASIAN WHO’S WHO”, a biography book, has published Alaknanda’s biography enlisting her achievements and contributions to the society through her art. Bangiya Sangeet Kalakendra, Kolkata and awarded the Title “NRITYA SHREE”. Alaknanda has also won the BEST ARTIST AWARD at Rabindra Bhavan at Jamshedpur on the occasion of Guru Purnima on 7th July 2009. Awarded “NAATYASHREE”at Vishakapatnam on 7th September 2010 atVysakhi Natyotsav.

- Alaknanda and her troupe “Sanskriti” presented DURGA SHAKTI at Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh on 27th September, 2009 on the occasion of Navratra was highly appreciated by the Chief Guest, District Magistrate of Bilaspur. Organized by the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh.
Alaknanda was widely appreciated for her performance in Netherlands,Holland. A lot of foreign audiences interacted with her to get a detailed knowledge of the Indian Culture and also to understand the graceful and spiritual styling to Kathak dance. She has also performed in Maldives on the occasion of “50th Anniversary of India’s Independence” sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations. She has also conducted successful Kathak workshops for the Maldivians during the tour. She has also performed at World Festival For Island Cultures at Jeju, South Korea, (17th May 2001 to 16th June 2001) representing India with her dance style- Kathak. This was a festival for a month where artists from 32 countries were presenting their art styles.
Alaknanda performed successfully Europe tour sponsored by Indian Council Cultural Relations from 16th July, 2003. She performed at the Czech Republic, Polland, Germany and Switzerland. Alaknanda has introduced KATHAK to POLAND at the CRACOVIA DANCE FESTIVAL,(1st August to 10th August 2009, 24th July to 31st July, 2010 and 30th July to 7th August 2011. She is the Indian master at the festival collaborating with other European masters from Poland, France, Italy and U.K. Alaknanda and Romana’s performance at the festival was the highly appreciated by audiences and applauded by all Newspaper, Media and National Television Network – Doordarshan.
Alaknanda’s depiction of DURGA, Duet with Ms.Romana Agnel – Spanish Doll Dance and Panchtatva – 5 elements at WAWEL CASTLE, Krakaow, Poland was highly applauded and appreciated by the audience. She is the Indian master at the festival from, 2009,2010,2011,2012 and 2013 collaborating with other European masters from Poland, France and U.K. The Indian grace and beauty of the dance has inspired many polish dancers to learn Kathak dance.Alaknanda’s troupe “SANSKRITI” performed Holi, Tarana & Panchtava at the Villa Decius, Renaissance Castle and at the Krakow Square.
INDO-EUROPEAN DANCE FESTIVAL – 2010 and 2011
Alaknanda is the pioneer for getting Western Classical Dance style in India. She has organized Indo-European Dance Festival, 2010 co-branded by Delhi Times and supported by ICCR commencing from 30th Jan to 14th Feb, 2010. The Indo European dance festival was inaugurated on 30th Jan’2010 by Shri Ajit Gupte, Deputy Director General, ICCR at Azad Bhawan, ICCR.The inaugural event showcased the performances by the Masters: Alaknanda Bose (Kathak),Romana Agnel( Baroque) and Marie-Claire Le Corre (Renaissance). A live performance on 7th Feb’ 2010 at the Worlds of Wonder, The Great India Place, Noida, the Grand Finale was at 8th Feb, 2010 at Shriram Center, New Delhi with the dance performances by the participants as well as the Masters but also special performance by the renowned Music Director, singer and instrumentalist Sir Gautam Dasgupta, who performed old classic songs on Hawaiian Guitar.
The festival then moved on to Mumbai & Goa with the spell bound performance by Alaknanda at National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai on 10th Feb, 2010 and at Kala Academy, Goa on 14th Feb, 2010. In 2011 the 2nd Indo European was held from 26th March tom 4th April 2011. Padmashree Shobhana Narayan ji inaugrated the Finale at Kamani Auditorium on the 4th April 2011 with recitals inKathak, Baroque, Renaissance and Russian Folk. The Guest of Honour at The Great India Place was actress Sushma Seth. Then on in 2012 in Russian Centre for Science and Culture, New Delhi and in 2013 in India International Centre, New Delhi and Russian Centre for Science and Culture.
The Global Cultural Festival and Natraj Festival
Alaknanda is taking the pleasure of organizing THE NATRAJ DANCE FESTIVAL,a unique dance festival which will bring male dancers of the world together on one platform. This effort is being initiated to showcase the grace of the male performers and motivate more male youngsters towards the grace and rhythm of classical dance.The festival was held from 11th to 14th November, 2010. The finale performance was on 13th November, 2010 at ICCR’s Azad Bhawan Auditorium, New Delhi and on 14th November, 2010 at The Great India Place, Noida by Pavitra Bhatt, Soumya Bose, Quincy kendell Charles,Ajay Savane and Sinam Basu Singh. On 12 th Nov 2011 the NATRAJ DANCE FESTIval featured Sadanad Biswas and Pulkit Gupta as a Tribute to Tagore. In 2012 – 150th Birth Centenary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated at Global Cultural Festival presenting SWAMI of INDIA – Vivekananda by Room theatre and Odissi by Srabonti Dutta and Sudeshna.
Nrityashri Alaknanda in SINGAPORE
With the passion of taking kathak Global Alaknanda has spread her wings to Singapore. Kathak workshop was organised from 25th MAY TO 6TH April 2011 at Tampines and kathak recital was applauded at Queenstown CC showcasing the kathak of the Temple Times. After the success of the first workshop KATHAK Mughal Andaaz was organised with kathak workshops from 17th Sep to 25th Sep 2011 and many dance lovers joined the workshops. All the workshop participants performed at the Finale show at Muneeswaran Temple on the 25th Sep 2011 showcasing the evolution of kathal at Mughal times. 2012 Performed for INDIA SE Anniversary Event and 2013 performed at Kalliamannan Temple at Singapore.
